Johor Association for Mentally Retarded Children was formed in 1983 with the aim of carrying out tasks and activities pertaining to special education. It's prime objective is to educate mentally challenged children with knowledge and living skills. Besides creating public awareness towards these special children, our aim as a NGO is to assist the government in looking after their needs. We believe that education should be made possible for all.
Special children should be treated equally and ought to be given education and guidance to mould them to become self reliant and competent in all aspects of life just like normal children. Sekolah Kanak-kanak Istimewa is a pioneer school managed by the association. The school is designed with special facilities catering to the needs of mild & moderate mentally challenged children between the ages of 4 to 21 years old.
The operational budget for the school is approximately RM650,000.00 per annum. Funds are generated through charity activities and donations from the attentive and caring private sectors and individuals. But it's a challenge to raise sufficient funds every year in order to maintain our facilities.
