Claim businessThe Malaysian Karst Society (MKS) is a non-profit organisation formed to conserve the karst outcrops in Malaysia. Karst is landscape underlain by limestone which has been eroded by water through dissolution, producing various formations, these include the limestone hills and caves.
Objectives
- Advance awareness of the scientific, educational, aesthetic, historical & cultural values of the karst outcrops in Malaysia.
- Advocate for the conservation & preservation of these outcrops and the diverse ecosystems it supports in an economically sustainable manner in harmony with the socioeconomic objectives of the government.
- Conduct research, investigate and draw up proposals for the sustainable development of the resources contained in these outcrops without compromising preservation objectives.
- Establish a research and educational facility of international reputation for the study of the geological formations of the karst areas and issues of sustainable development, conservation management and parks development that may have global application.
- Encourage Eco-tourism and Sustainable Development in the karst areas of Malaysia.
- Identify an area with a significant measure of the outcrop and promote its development into an ecological park that is a harmonious integration of economic activities, recreation and conservation.
