First I heard about Kumon is from my friend's daughter. She did a part time work there. I called the centre to know more about their programs. The staff was very nice. He answered all my questions and was very patient in explaining their programs to me. But I think the monthly fee for each subject is quite expensive.

Based on my personal opinion, my daughther was having problem in doing and solving her mathematics. I had tried to sent her to many tuition centre's specially for maths and yes she got improve in maths but not so significatly and i'm not satisfies with her result. finally, i got to know Kumon from my friend and i sent my daughther to here. i got surprised that just in few months attending Kumon, my daughther had improved alot in her maths and her result had boost. Im seriously happy with her enhancement in mathematics subject. Kumon is the best!!!

My son has been going to Kumon for the last two years and he definitely has benefitted from it. I think we are also lucky to be with a center where they are flexible and willing to move him to test him for the next level if they feel he has got the concept. That being said, I don’t think Kumon clicks with all kids. There are other options out there today which cater to different learning styles like Aloha, Singapore Math, JEI where they may be more hands on teaching involved. We compared some of these options in our article:

Cons : it's a drag to keep turning up to the centre. Cons : reduces the time available for play dates and after school clubs. Cons : sooner you start, sooner child learns Kumon style and resists learning maths in the way state schools teach check carefully which you prefer as school ethos is more tailored to applying maths rather than calculation. Cons : If she is bright she will also get bored in class quickly if she knows the content already. Cons : A bored child in maths is a sure fire path to low level class room disruption. Fundemental problem being good at maths WILL NOT make her confident at school, or increase her self esteem. Being a good reader will by Oct she will be comparing colour bands of all her class mates, money better spent on intensive reading in my view.

I work for Kumon and can tell you I have seen many, many children benefit massively from Kumon in so many different ways. Its not just about maths and English its also about giving children the self confidence and independent learning skills to succeed. The Free Trial is a great opportunity to test it out and make a decision for yourself. Yes I agree with Sarah K that it is a daily programme and that the children will need encouragement from the parents but once they realise how much it can help and when it simply becomes part of their routine they really do enjoy Kumon.
