He said, from the total, 80 per cent have been successfully treated by surgically inserting Ventriculo-Peritonel or VP-shunt, namely a kind of tube placed in the chamber of the brain to drain the Celebrospinal fluid (CSF), a white liquid which surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Consultant neurosurgeon with the Neurological Association, Dr Azmi Alias, who was present at the event said Hydrocephalus is a condition in which fluid accumulates in the brain, typically in young children which causes their head to enlarge and sometimes cause brain damage, while Craniosynostosis is a birth defect in which one or more of the joints between the bones of your baby's skull close prematurely, before your baby's brain is fully formed. The Apert syndrome, he said, is a genetic disorder that causes abnormal development of the skull. Babies with Apert syndrome are born with a distorted shape of the head and face. He concurred that parents should follow Rohani's advice as these three diseases would need lifelong treatment and they would need every assistance they could get.
