In 1980, one of the major events planned by Chaozhou Youth League was to assist the mother association in hosting the 80th anniversary celebration of the Chaozhou Association. In the same year, the Chaozhou Guild Lion Dance Troupe was established.
Since 1982, the Lion Troupe has been out every year during the Chinese New Year to send New Year greetings to fellow townspeople and all walks of life in order to raise funds for activities. The Teochew Lion Dance Troupe has also won many championships in lion dance viewing competitions, and represented Sabah in the National Golden Lion Cup finals in 1990.
The Tawau Teochew Association's Lion Dance Troupe went out to celebrate the Lunar New Year and pick green flowers for the New Year. They also prepared luminous lion picking activities for a unique green picking activity at night.
