The Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW) was founded on the 3rd of March 1973 and registered with the Registrar of Societies on the 28th of March 1974 (ROS 1387 Selangor) with the purpose of promoting and maintaining the quality of social work practice and education in Malaysia. MASW was formed as the result of a general agreement among professional social workers from hospitals and social welfare services that there should be one umbrella body to unite social workers from different fields of expertise to meet their professional needs. MASW has a membership of nearly 200 members who work in government and non-government welfare services, in university social work education programmes, in private colleges and corporations, and in private social work practice and training institutes. It also retains membership of retired social workers.
