Lily graduated with double degrees, a Bachelor of Economics (with an Accounting major) and a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. She was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1990 and commenced legal practice as a Banking & Finance/Corporate associate at Messrs. Albar, Zulkifly & Yap. She enjoyed a meteoric career and was inducted as Banking & Finance Partner (1993), thereafter Corporate & Capital Markets Senior Partner (1999) at Albar & Partners. She has led in numerous award-winning projects. In 2012, Lily led in the global listing of Malaysian plantation giant, Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad, which was the largest IPO in Malaysia and 2nd largest IPO in the world for 2012 at the point of listing (Asian-MENA Counsel Deal of the Year 2012 and IPO Deal of the Year: IFN Awards 2012). Lily also advised the issuer in the Boustead Plantations Berhad IPO, which was named “Islamic Finance Deal of the Year” (Asian Lawyer’s Emerging Markets Awards 2014) and “Equity Market Deal of the Year” (ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2015). She advised the sole principal adviser, lead arranger & lead manager in the DRB-HICOM Berhad RM2.0 billion Sukuk, which won the 2014 MARC Lead Managers Market Innovator Award. Additionally, the deal was “Highly Commended” for “Best Corporate Hybrid Sukuk” at the Asset Triple A Islamic Finance Awards 2015. Lily is well regarded by the Legal 500, IFLR 1000 and Chambers Asia and has been recommended as a “Leading Lawyer” in the practice areas of Banking & Finance, Capital Markets and Corporate/ M&A for several years. She was also listed by the IFLR Expert Guide series as a top legal professional in Capital Markets (2011) and Banking & Finance and Transactional lawyers: for both Capital Markets and Islamic Finance (2012). Within the Islamic Finance space, Lily was voted as a “Leading Lawyer” for several years by global senior industry Islamic finance practitioners (including issuers, investors, non-legal financial intermediaries & regulators) in annual surveys conducted by the Islamic Finance News in the IFN Leading Lawyers Survey for Project Finance (2009), Banking & Finance (2010), Banking & Capital Markets (2011) and M&A (2012).
