I met with a motor vehicle collision head on, on a bike with a MPV in Langkawi. The accident left me with several possibly life threatening/ changing Injuries that needed a miracle to come out of. That miracle was god sent to me in the form of Dr. Mahendran. My initial trauma and injuries were treated by the team of surgeons at the Langkawi govt. hospital. Having shattered my pelvis and with 3 broken spinal bones amongst a host of other complications I was then airlifted to Ipoh. Dr. Mahen accepted my case on evaluating my scans and history over call and email with my father. He was always prompt and crystal clear about the course of action ahead and always gave my family a clear picture about the possibilities and outcomes such surgeries would involve.
Meeting Dr. Mahen at the helipad and seeing him being confident about treating my condition gave me the assurance that I so dearly needed. Although my father and brother would only make it to Ipoh 8 hours later he ensured that I got the medical attention and care that was required and attended to my case by personally taking the assurance of my payment / patient info compliance once my family arrived.
My spinal and pelvic fixation surgeries were scheduled within 3 days of each other and during this period he was constantly on call and supported me and my family through the ordeal.
What he achieved with my condition was no less than a miracle and this is only possible for a Dr. with years of experience with skilled hands. He along with the team of doctors, nurses, Physio’s pushed me to take my first steps merely 2 days after the surgery and were super dedicated to improve my physical condition and constantly pushed me to feel positive, have a good diet, fight pain without painkillers & get myself in a condition to fly back home within a week of surgery.
It’s 8 months since the day I got home and treated further by the team of doctors in India for related complications. Every doctor / physician / surgeon / care giver / physio who have reviewed my case and helped me through the process of recovery have been in amazement of what Dr. Mahen and the team have been able to achieve.
He also supported my family through constant inquiries about my condition and a regular update on my progress post leaving Ipoh.
Today I am mobile, can walk without a crutch, almost back to normalcy in terms of movement and do my day to day activities without much hindrance. Off course after an accident like this there are physical irregularities that take getting used to and will only improve over time. But every time I think of giving up I am immediately played with a voice in my head of Dr. Mahen pushing me to take it further, that I can achieve it. Without his genuine care and desire to see me do better I wouldn’t have been able to get out of the mental aspect of this condition let alone my recovery.
Me, my family, friends and above all my little one are thankful beyond words for giving me my life back. He’s our Hero :)
