眼科顾问兼玻璃体视网膜外科巴克哈宁医生表示，糖尿病性黄斑部水肿是造成糖尿病患者视力从中度至严重减退的主要原因，同时也是大多数发展中国家工作人口失明的重要因素。"令人担忧的是，超过三分之二的糖尿病患者从来不曾进行任何眼睛检查，大约10%患者的视力其实只有3/60(眼锐度测试距离),这已经是接近失明的严重情况了!"

Barkeh said the biggest worry is that many people living with diabetes are of working age, hence complications that arise can lead to loss of productivity. "It is therefore important to screen for and diagnose diabetes complications, such as diabetic retinopathy as early as possible to prevent permanent vision loss and improve patient outcomes," she said.
