There are many sub-specialities in the medical field. Not many know what those medical terms stand for. So, here are some definitions for popular specialists in the medical world for a better health.
Eye Specialist/Ophthalmologist (Pakar Mata/眼科医生)
Ophthalmologist is a doctor that diagnoses eye diseases and gives prescription on the treatment of the eye diseases. They can also prescribe your glasses/contacts power. They are the only one who have license to perform eye surgery for diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.
Gynaecologist/Obstetrician (Pakar Sakit Puan/妇产科医生)
Gynaecologists are doctors that help cure any diseases regarding the female reproductive system. Diseases such as heavy menstrual bleeding, infertility, ovarian cancer, and many more are treated by them. Also known as Gynae. Obstetrician are doctors who help pregnant mothers go through the pregnancy phase and birth delivery. Any complications with the mother or baby during the prenatal and postnatal are handled by them. Plastic Surgeon/Cosmetic Surgeon/Aesthetic Surgeon (Pembedah Plastik/美容医生/整容医生)
Plastic surgery can be defined as a surgical specialty which is to reconstruct facial and body defects due to many reasons such as birth disorders, trauma, burns, and diseases. Plastic surgery is intended to correct dysfunctional areas of the body and is reconstructive in nature. Though cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is the most well-known kind of plastic surgery, plastic surgery is not to be considered cosmetic or aesthetic surgery as there are other subdivisions in this field.
Paediatrician/Pakar Kanak-Kanak (Pakar Kanak-kanak儿科医生)
A Paediatrician is a doctor that specialises in curing diseases which affect children from a new born-baby to an 18 year old teenager. Most of them like to practice general medicine but there are a few which specialises in specific areas such as paediatrics neonatology.
Psychiatrist (Psikitri精神科医生)
Psychiatrist is a medical doctor that specializes in mental health. They are trained to diagnose both mental and physical state of any psychological problems. They can prescribe medicines to be used as treatment.
Psychologist (Ahli Psikologi心理医生)
Psychologists are mental health doctors who help patients by giving consultations and therapies. They are not allowed to prescribe any medicines. If the patient needs medication, they will refer the patient to a psychiatrist.
Neurologist (Ahli Neurologi/脑科医生)
The neurologist treats disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Any disorders of the nervous system such as epilepsy are treated by them. A neurologist is not trained to perform surgery. If a surgery is needed, the patient is referred to a Neurosurgeon.
Orthopaedic Surgeon (Ortopedik/骨科医生)
The Orthopaedic Surgeon is a medical doctor that specialises in prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments. It is a specialisation treatment of the musculoskeletal system.
ENT/Otorhinolaryngology (Ahli Otorinolaringologi/耳鼻喉科医生)
A medical specialist who is trained for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the head and neck, which particularly includes the ears, nose, and throat. ENT doctors are also called otolaryngologists. They handle problems such as dizziness and hearing loss.

As it says in the name, they cover a wide-ranging area of surgery with many subspecialties. They need a wide range of knowledge and skills to deal with all kinds of surgical emergencies, by giving emphasis on acute abdominal problems. They are essential in emergency department and trauma services as they can deal with any type of injuries to the abdomen and chest.

Traditional Chinese Doctor (Doktor Tradisional Cina/中医)
Chinese medical practice includes various forms of Chinese herbal medicine and therapy. It is used as a complementary alternative medicine approach. Traditional Chinese medicine includes acupuncture, diet, herbal therapy, meditation, physical exercise, and massage.
Veterinarian (Doktor Haiwan/兽医)
A medical field that is related to the medical and surgical treatment of animals, especially domesticated animals or called lovingly, pets.
