ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW SEA GAMES 2017: Games, Tickets, Venues and Free Admission
This year, Malaysia is going to host the 29th South East Asian Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games. The SEA Games starts from 15th August 2017 until 30th August 2017 with the opening ceremony on 19th August 2017 at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, the ASEAN Para Games will take place from 17th until 23rd of September 2017. This year SEA Games are celebrated together with Malaysia 60th Independent Day and Malaysia Day.
5 Interesting Facts About This Year SEA Games:
- This is the sixth time for Malaysia to host SEA Games after playing the role as the host for 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989 and 2001 SEA Games.
- Initially, this year SEA Games is set to take place in Brunei Darussalam with Malaysia scheduled for 2019 but they are not ready to play the role as the host. Therefore, the South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) made an offer to Malaysia on 14 July 2012 to host 2017 SEA Games.
- The official mascot for 29th SEA Games is RIMAU, inspired by the graceful and powerful Malayan Tiger. RIMAU stands for Respect, Integrity, Move, Attitude and Unity.
- The First Rising Together Baton Run aims to promote SEA Games among the participating Southeast Asian countries. It started in Brunei on 5th March 2017, headed to Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore and arrived at Malaysia on 13th May 2017.
- The iconic Torch Run aims to promote the game directly to the locals and provide an opportunity for Malaysians to symbolically express support for athletes and the games. The Torch Run is open to all and it started in Johor on 13th May 2017, heading to Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan, Sabah, Sarawak, Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and will arrived at Kuala Lumpur on 6th August 2017.
The torch will be brought into Bukit Jalil National Stadium to light up the Games cauldron at the opening ceremony of KL2017 on 19 August 2017. The fire will remain lit until the closing ceremony, when it will then be put out to mark the end of the Games.

You may purchase the tickets for the games, opening ceremony and closing ceremony from appointed ticket outlets or through online purchase. The tickets are on sale now with prices ranging from rm10 to rm20.
The 19 sports that will require tickets are aquatics (diving, swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo), badminton, gymnastics, karate, taekwondo, silat, futsal, netball, rugby, cycling (track), basketball, sepak takraw, billiard and snooker, muay and football.

Free Admissions:
According to the Chairman of SEA Games Federation and the President of Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, most of the game venues are free as they wish to not give a burden to the spectators to pay more in order to enjoy the games. They are not relying on the sales of tickets to get revenue and they wish to have as many people as possible to watch the games at all venues.
